Photo Critique Release

What you are agreeing to when you send your photographs in

Last updated September 20, 2026

What you are applying for

You are submitting your photographs so that Cody Mitchell may review them and possibly publish a critique of them on YouTube, or in other Codacolor content.

Submitting does not guarantee anything. Most submissions will not be selected. There is no payment either way.

The part that matters most

A critique is honest. If your photos are selected, Cody will talk about what is working in them and also about what is not working, publicly, to an audience.

That is the point of the format, and it is the thing you are agreeing to. The tone is respectful and the intent is to teach, never to mock. But it is a real critique, not a compliment. If you would not be comfortable hearing your work discussed that way in public, please do not submit.

What you are giving permission for

By submitting, you grant Cody Mitchell and Codacolor permission to:

  • Display, reproduce, crop, zoom, annotate, and edit your submitted photographs for the purpose of critique and teaching.
  • Publish that critique on YouTube, the Codacolor website, Codacolor Studio, email, and social media.
  • Quote what you wrote in your application, edited for length and clarity.
  • Keep the published piece online indefinitely.

This permission is worldwide and free of charge. You keep the copyright to your photographs. This is a licence to use them, not a transfer of ownership.

Your photographs will not be sold, licensed to anyone else, or used in paid advertising.

Your name and credit

You choose how you are identified. On the application form you pick one of:

  • Use my full name and link my work. Cody may use your full name and link your Instagram or portfolio in the video and description.
  • First name and where I am based only. For example, "Ana from Lisbon".
  • Do not name me at all. Cody shows the photographs without identifying you.

Whatever you pick is what gets used.

What you are confirming

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You took these photographs, or you otherwise own the rights to them.
  • Anyone clearly identifiable in the photographs has agreed to appear in them, and none of them is a child.
  • You are submitting voluntarily.

Your rights

  • Change your mind before publication. Email [email protected] and your submission is withdrawn, no questions asked.
  • After publication. A video that is already published may stay published. If something in it causes you a real problem, email and Cody will work with you on it.
  • Removal of your files. You can ask for your uploaded files to be deleted at any time.
  • Corrections. If something about you is stated wrongly, ask and it gets corrected.

What happens to your files

Your photographs are uploaded to a private Google Drive folder that only Cody and his team can open. They are used for critique and nothing else.
